I have followed this case from the beginning. As knowledgeable as I thought I was, I learned a number of things from this excellent summary. Henry Cordes has done a terrific job in laying out a complicated story. Kudos to him and Todd Cooper!
I live in Lincoln NE and was aware of this case and attended a presentation to an OLLI class by the author. As a fan of true crime novels, I found it to be as well written as any crime novel i’ve read. Omahans are very fortunate to have law enforcement and journalism staff with such skill and professionalism as those involved in this tragic case. BRAVO!!!!!
Please do not waste your time or money. Google Dr. Anthony Garcia. You'll know everything. I read this in a few hours and was stunned by how boring, repetitious, and amateurish it was . Ugh.
I have always lived in Omaha & followed this case, therefore I found the book well written & researched. I didn't know until reading it, that I know some of the people involved. Not sure why it received a bad review, I thought it was excellent.
found it well written /researched, but I did find one aspect really annoying.When the police first came across the killer's name, they were unsure if he was involved, so consequently did not zero in on him. There were witnesses in the neighborhood who did see the stranger walking the street and approaching the house that the first murders occurred in - surely showing them a photo and asking " does this look like the person you saw ?, would have been a very quick way to rule him in or out. Found it frustrating that this was never mentioned -unless I missed something?
As a 'true crime' reader I was very moved by the thorough rendition of this event. The ups and downs of the investigation, the evidence gathering, and dedication of the officers and defence team. Most stories end with the verdict, but reading this I felt the struggle of all involved to not just know the who and why, but proof in their theory.Yes, I could have googled this and gotten the facts, but if I had I would never have gotten to know the whole story, the work that went into it, or come away with so much respect for the men and women who worked this case. Thank you for writing such a complete account.
I enjoyed reading this account of a very sad case, but I wasn’t riveted by it as I have been by others. It was amazing police work. Somehow the characters, including the killer, didn’t get a deep enough description into their psyche as I have seen other authors do.
Bought this after hearing the author discuss it on a podcast. I found it informative and interesting.
