Since this author is a former smoker, she understands how hard it is to quit. But she also knows what it takes to quit. The book is well written. It is full of helpful insights, tips and information. While reading it, I felt she was talking directly to me and understood how I was feeling and what I was thinking. It's almost as if she knows me and is my personal quit smoking coach. The underlying theme of the book is, "you can do it and I can help you get there". It is positive and encouraging. She gives you activities that help you find your own personal motivation for quitting. She helps you find ways to focus on the benefits of not smoking, rather than telling why you should quit. We do not need one more person telling us we should quit. We need help not nagging or scolding or being made to feel guilty. I can't stress enough how positive this book is. I just started reading this book a few days ago. But after years of smoking and multiple times trying to quit, this book makes me believe I can do it. This book is a wonderful resource. I am a tobacco treatment provider, and it is so nice to have much of the critical information available and well organized in one place. In addition to valuable information, this book also provides numberous exercises for people who are trying to quit. Different exercises tend to resonate with different people. This book allows those trying to quit to look at a wide array of options and select those that are most suited for them. I use excerpts from this book in my treatment programs, and recommend that my participants consider purchasing a copy for their personal use - as I feel it could be well utilized by motivated participants.
I love this little book! What a great idea to have a pocket sized set of tools to stay smoke free! The tips are direct, easy to read and to the point.The point, for me, is that even after I made the decision to stop smoking it has not always been easy to stay quit. Having these tips close at hand helps to remind me of ways to NOT pick up a cigarette. "I am a puff away from a pack a day" is my motto today. Thank you for helping me stay quit!
